This year, Specialized brings one of the best trail bikes out there to the table. For 2012 there is an oversized axle and wider spacing in the back end of the bike. This is awesome for keeping the back end stiff, strengthens the back wheel and favors an aggressive rider. A 2x10 drivetrain eliminates the larger underutilized chainring, and when paired with an oversized 36 tooth cog in the back, you eliminate redundant gears, smooth out the shifting process, and reduce weight. Specialized has included a new feature called Auto sag, which is designed to measure your weight including all your gear to give you perfect sag every time. Redline Monocog Upgrade - Part 1, Disassembly

2010 Redline Monocog 29er purchased new from Blackstone Cycles in Cumberland, RI on sale. Other than the Tektro IO Disk brakes that they added its a typical stock 'Cog. Part 1 is stripping parts from the frame - Bottom Bracket was a bit tough (I highly recommend the Park BB tool) but otherwise pretty simply stuff. 2011 Leadville 100 MTB Trail Race Powerline Descent Downhill Mountain Bike Race Across The Sky

The fabled Powerline descent in the 2011 running of the Leadville Trail MTB 100 Race in Leadville Colorado. Mountain Bike Race Across the Sky. Using a Titanium 29er with SID29 RCT3 suspension fork. Drivetrain was 2x10 SRAM XX, Lightning Carbon cranks, Stans 29er Gold tubeless wheelset with Maxxis 2.1 Aspens. I drank Perpetuem mixed with Gatorade for the whole race but pre-race two bottles of Herbalife Prolong for carb loading. I got the Prolong from the Herbalife basecamp at the pre-race expo. Great guys and decent product. If I had more time with the Prolong I may have used it during the event. Also, check out the fatcyclist blog as he has a great account of the race and some good causes to promote.

Swelter Ride at Marshall Canyon Part 2

Raw video of our Swelter Ride at Marshall Canyon. We expected it to be hot and humid but under the canopy of trees it was fine. In the ride we had 2 full suspension bikes and 3 hard tails. 2 of the HT's were 29ers. Conditions were great. Hardpack with very little mud along the water crossings. Great time to ride as well as the trail was practically deserted. I am riding a Vassago Bandersnatch 29er hardtail behind a guy on a Specialized Stumpjumper
